A Note From Allegory
An Update on Order Fulfillment and the Allegory Name
We think the right way to run a brand people trust is to tell them the truth, especially when it's inconvenient. Two separate things are affecting Allegory right now, one operational and one legal, and we want to be direct about both: where they stand, why, and what happens next.
Order fulfillment and the backlog
Over the past several months, Allegory saw a large uptick in volume and demand, more than our operation was built to absorb at the time. The honest result is that we fell behind. Orders backed up, some of them going back further than any of us are comfortable with, and a number of you have waited far longer than you should have for pieces you already paid for. We're sorry for that, and we're not going to pretend it didn't happen.
To fix it at the root, we moved production to new manufacturing partners in China. This decision was about quality and pace: it lets us produce better materials and finish garments to a higher standard, while getting them out the door faster than we were previously able to. We would genuinely like to bring production back to the United States in time, and that remains a goal. In the interim, this is what allows us to put good product in your hands without the delays that got us here.
Here is the concrete part: the backlogged orders are being fulfilled now, and they will ship with tracking this week. Once this backlog clears, fulfillment should return to a normal, predictable cadence. If you've been waiting, your tracking is on the way.
A note on our name
Separately, we are working through a trademark matter involving the Allegory name. A tattoo company holds a prior trademark on "Allegory" from their own past use, and that claim has begun to affect our ability to do business. It is part of why our shop channel has not been accessible, and it has created complications across our social media profiles as well.
We want to resolve this amicably, and we are currently in active discussions and negotiations to do exactly that. Our strong preference is an outcome that works for both parties. We'll be candid, though: if we are unable to reach an amicable agreement, changing our name becomes a possibility. That is a last resort, not a plan. But we would rather you hear it from us than be caught off guard by it later.
We're choosing to move through this period in radical transparency. Our hope is that everything here is resolved by the end of the month. Whether that timeline holds remains to be seen. As it develops, we'll keep you updated rather than going quiet.
Thank you for sticking with us.
